Grooves In The Garden Joins Market Days to Empower DC Youth

Washington, DC - As part of the monthly Wellness Market Days at The Well at Oxon Run, a program of DC Greens, Connected to Culture is excited to present "Grooves in The Garden: Dance & Dine" on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 300 Valley Avenue SE. This family-friendly event offers a dynamic fusion of culture, movement, and food, with a special focus on engaging and empowering youth residing in the District of Columbia.

As part of the broader Market Days initiative, which brings fresh produce, wellness, and education to the Ward 8 community, Grooves in The Garden will include programs designed to inspire and benefit the children and youth of DC. With interactive dance workshops, educational cooking demos, and creative storytelling sessions, the event provides young attendees with meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and grow.

Local youth will have the chance to explore the rich cultural traditions of the African Diaspora through dance workshops led by Dance with a Purpose Academy USA (@dwpacademy.usa). These workshops not only teach dance moves but also build confidence, foster teamwork, and offer a positive outlet for creative expression.

Young visitors can also discover the importance of healthy eating through culinary demonstrations by renowned Chef Lois Spencer. Chef Spencer will prepare delicious, kid-friendly vegetarian dishes, using fresh ingredients from The Well's garden, while emphasizing the significance of nutrition and mindful eating.

Additionally, families can participate in engaging story times hosted by the DC Public Library in the outdoor children's classroom. These sessions will spark creativity and a love for storytelling, providing an enriching environment for children to explore their imaginations.

Youth wellness is at the heart of the day’s offerings, with activities like yoga and a restorative journaling workshop designed to nurture mindfulness and emotional well-being in young attendees. The holistic environment of The Well at Oxon Run creates a space where children and their families can reconnect with nature, creativity, and community.

Grooves In The Garden event, which is part of Connected to Culture’s efforts to promote health, wellness, and community in Ward 8, is proudly supported by Events DC. Together, we are working to create experiences that enrich the lives of DC’s children and youth, while also fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
